The tutor has to know phonics, including common ending soungs (e.g. ow, ing, le, er, tion) and double and triple consonants (e.g. fl, spr). The kid has almost finished learning short vowels (i.e. a, e, i, o, e) and shall ideally then proceed to learning long vowels (i.e. a_e, e_e, i_e, o_e, u_e), and eventually diphthongs (e.g. ai, ee, oo).
